Power beds, modified with wheels, travel down a set course. Teams consist of five people: four “pushers” who provide the power and one “rider” who must stay on the bed for the entire race. Each bed includes a mattress or pad, and teams will race one block, with heats of two or three teams at a time depending on the number of entries. A big part of the fun is the “Parade of Beds” before the race, where teams show off creative themes and outrageous costumes, and awards will be given for the fastest team, best decorated bed, and best team costumes.
