Trails 'N' Routes: Drive Down Route 15

Posted on 08/02/2022 by Tyler Pletsch

Day trips are an amazing way to see many different communities, shops, and eateries. On this edition of Trails ‘N’ Routes, we will take a road trip down Illinois Route 15 heading west from Mount Carmel to Fairfield.
Starting in Mount Carmel, you have to begin the trip with some coffee from Café 82:3. Their iced marble mocha comes HIGHLY recommended! Be sure to check their Facebook page for hours and any specials they may have before you visit. From there, head south to The Attic Boutique and Wild Rose Boutique to find that missing something in the wardrobe for yourself or the kiddos! If you are more of a vintage buff, Vintage Collections has everything you need from household furniture to décor.
Next, head west to Albion and bring an appetite for some delicious, made-to-order Bobe's Pizza! Our eastern region is packed with history, and Albion has a couple of unique spots to learn about the community including the Edwards County Jail. Since the Civil War, this jail has hosted thousands whom have entered its doors, both willingly and not. The jail is being restored by the Edwards County Historical Society and once the project is complete it will house the society’s archives. Once you’ve finished touring the jail, walk a block southeast and visit the Edwards County Historical Society Museum. If a recharge is needed before the next stop, the Colyer Coffee House is just a few blocks away. From espresso-based drinks to light lunch fare, they will get you ready to go again in no time!
Last on our trip is Fairfield, and don’t worry if you’re hungry, we have a solution – Jovalou Cuisine & Cocktails! Feel free to have a southwest burger, caprese flatbread, boudin wontons, or choose from many other options. Oh, and don’t forget to have a southern bourbon sweet tea cocktail for us! Now get in, we’re going shopping! First stop off at Carnaby Square for some needed new shirts and accessories. Before heading back home, be sure to stock up on baked goods and fresh produce over at Bullard’s Farm Market & Bakery!
