You-Pick Farms: Fall Edition

Posted on 09/23/2022 by Tyler Pletsch

With the weather changing and fall upon us, it’s time to do some pumpkin picking and apple cider sipping! We have picked eight orchards and patches to highlight in this fall guide, but we have so many more! Visit our website to find all the outdoor venues or download our app to better map out and plan a day for the whole family!

Our first spotlight is a great stop for the whole family, Happy Hollow Family Farms. Located in St. Elmo, Happy Hollow offers a wide array of things to do from picking pumpkins off the vine to hayrides, a kiddie play area with a corn pit and slide, lemonade slushies, and several events during the season. Each weekend in October, Happy Hollow boasts its Bin & Basket Market featuring multiple vendors! Be sure to stay up to date on their upcoming events for the season, which runs through October 30, by clicking here.

Next, we will head south to Centralia to visit our friends at Schwartz Orchard. This family farm is known for its apple cider donuts, peaches, and crisp apples! From caramel apples to donuts, all the baked goods you desire are made daily from fruit grown at the orchard. This makes for some tasty fresh sweets, but be sure to go early so you don’t miss out on their limited supply. Before you leave, snag some beautiful mums for the season.

Staying in our central region is Taphorn Orchard in Beckemeyer. This orchard is a top spot for apples, gourds, pumpkins, and cider! If you are still in search of those amazing Jonathan apples or need some decorative straw bales, Taphorn has what you need.

Heading into our western region and just an hour’s drive from St. Louis sits Schoenbeck Ranch in Ellis Grove. Operating from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the weekends, this ranch offers pony rides, covered wagon rides, corn maze, petting zoo, and more! Admission is only $6 and kids under 2-years-old are free. Be sure to visit through October 30, to not only buy some pumpkins but also try your hand at pumpkin bowling!

For those closer to the Indiana border, you have to stop in Olney and get an apple pie funnel cake at Possum Patch Farms! Enjoy walking around their goodie shop filled with fall décor either before or after picking out some pumpkins and mums! Be sure to check out their line of salsas and sauces as well, including a smokey orange BBQ sauce.

If you are looking for an awesome spot to bring the kiddos, look no further than the Country Kids Pumpkin Patch located in Hoyleton. With 20 different activities in  the $6 admission fee, Country Kids is a hidden gem that keeps bringing families together each fall. Enjoy various activities from pedal go-karts, pig races, a 30-foot indoor slide, and much more!

Located between I-64 and Fairfield, Shreve’s Pumpkin Patch in Mill Shoals is another fantastic option for fall festivities. From playing Gaga Ball to trying to find your way through a massive corn maze, Shreve’s is a great time to be had by all. If you love large, unique gourds or want to choose from a large variety of pumpkins, this is your one-stop-shop!

Our last highlighted venue is Streif’s Country Market in Flora. Be sure to visit for your pick of hundreds of mums and pumpkins. Don’t forget to bring the kids so they can enjoy the play area and straw maze! There is no admission fee and for their 2022 season, they operate Friday through Sunday.

Again, be sure to visit our website or download our app to find all the information listed above and to find even more to do this fall! Our area is jam-packed with fall-related events and venues you do not want to miss!
