"A Tale of Two Forts" by Mark Wagner, "SIU-C School Field Investigations at Fort Kaskaskia"
In 2017 Southern Illinois University at Carbondale archaelogists began excavations at Ft. Kaskaskia State Park for the first time in over 40 years. Over the past seven years we have discovered there are two Ft. Kaskaskias in the park, the one built by the French in the 1700s and a previously unkown American fort also named Ft. Kaskaskia. Learn more about this Fort in the very early 1800s and how this historic find is helping rewrite the early history of the Lewis and Clark Expedition!
Join us for the program in the History Museum of Monroe County’s Allscheid-Mezger Gallery located at 724 Elaine Drive, Waterloo, IL.
