Experience an Old-Fashioned German Christmas in Maeystown Dec. 5



Maeystown will come alive with German Christmas carols, vendors, the lighting of the village Weihnachatsbaum, a Christkindlmarkt, photo ops, Sankt Nikolaus and much more on Sunday, Dec. 5. 


On Sunday, December 5 from 11 a.m to 4 p.m., the village of Maeystown, Illinois will come alive with the sights and sounds of the annual Old Fashioned German Christmas. The Band Room Brass will stroll through the village from 12-2 p.m. and Carl Seavers and Jim Abbott will perform holiday music on dulcimers and other folk instruments in the Preservation Society Mill throughout the day. The popular German Carol Sing will take place in the sanctuary of St. John Church at 3 p.m., and the Traditional Carol Sing at 4 p.m. at the mill, with the lighting of the village Weihnachatsbaum concluding activities.

St. John Church will be hosting a Christkindlmarkt with 26 vendors from 11 to 4 p.m. in the church hall, as well as a free Quilt Show in the sanctuary from 12-4 p.m. There will also be Christmas Traditions displays in the hall.

The Preservation Society Mill and Museum will be open throughout the day and will feature the Santa; western woodcarving of Wayne Laramore; German Paper Star folding and other items with Sally Durrer; a wrapped sassafras tree display and a photo opportunity outside with the victorian sleigh. Sankt Nikolaus will stroll throughout the village and guests can take a complimentary carriage ride. 

Food and drink will be available at Hank and Lilly's Creekside featuring hot gluehwein, as well as at Around the Corner Coffee Company and the Sweet Shoppe. Katzenjammers, Maeystown General Store and Georgia Mae's Antiques and Collectibles will be open for unique holiday shopping. The Corner George Inn Bed and Breakfast will offer a tour of the inn at 1:30 p.m.
